In the field of counseling and therapy, as with so many fields, a client who has biases interacts with a professional who has biases. Everyone has theirs; they are made up of what we've seen and learned and experienced in our lives.
However, it is not okay for any therapist to judge, push, or preach in session unless invited to by the client and we commit to maintain professional boundaries in all things.
We Wholeheartedly value ethics and wish to go above and beyond in all we do. We believe all therapists should have a statement of bias for the sake of transparency.
As such, we have written a Statement of Bias so that you are aware of who we are, where we have been, and what we aspire to:
We Wholeheartedly believe that God is Love and that Love is God.
Neither of us come from a perfect family, nor do we run one. We have extensive training and experience in how to have a peaceful and loving home.
We celebrate differences and welcome Christians, non-Christians, atheists, agnostics, and anyone else, as we work to help you and your relationships heal. Our goal is not to push our beliefs, it is to walk alongside you, no matter your beliefs or biases.
We Wholeheartedly believe in our Lord, Jesus Christ and in his plan to bring peace to all of us. He is the evidence of God's Love.
We are intentional Catholics, meaning, we have studied religion and have chosen to be a part of the universal Church that Christ established 2000 years ago, through constant conversion. We align with the Apostles' Creed.
We Wholeheartedly believe in the sanctity of marriage. Marriage is designed to be a union of one man and one woman.
We affirm that there are times when marital separation is necessary for physical, emotional, or spiritual safety. We do not push for reconciliation in any abusive situation unless there has been a great deal of evident and lasting change on the part of the abuser.
We Wholeheartedly believe in healing of relationships with self and others, that will bring peace into homes.
Whether it's healing you need, personal growth, or spiritual support, We are here.
We Care.
Marissa is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Colorado and Texas and holds a Certification as an Anger Resolution Therapist.
The practice of licensed or registered persons in the field of psychotherapy is regulated by the Mental Health Licensing Section of the Division of Professions and Occupations. The Board of Professional Counselor Examiners can be reached at 1560 Broadway, Suite 1350, Denver, Colorado 80202, (303) 894-7800.
As to the regulatory requirements applicable to mental health professionals, the state of Colorado requirements for Licensed Professional Counselor include a master’s degree at a CACREP certified or equivalent university, at least 2,000 hours supervised experience (Marissa has over 2,500), and the passing of two rigid exams; a national competency examination and a state jurisprudence exam.
You are entitled to receive information from your therapist about the methods of therapy, the techniques used, the duration of your therapy (if known), and the fee structure. You can seek a second opinion from another therapist or terminate therapy at any time.
In a professional relationship, sexual intimacy is never appropriate and should be reported to the board that licenses, registers, or certifies the licensee, registrant or certificate holder.
Generally speaking, the information provided by and to the client during therapy sessions is legally confidential and cannot be released without the client’s consent. There are exceptions to this confidentiality, some of which are listed in section 12-43-218 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, and the HIPAA Notice of Privacy Rights you were provided, as well as other exceptions in Colorado and Federal law.
For example, mental health professionals are required to report suspected child abuse to authorities.
Federal, Colorado, and Texas Good Faith Estimates and the No Surprises Act – Explanation in Regards to our Practice:
As of January 1, 2022, all health care providers are required to provide a good faith estimate to any person who is receiving services, and who is not using insurance or doesn’t have insurance for those services.
Important Points of This Law and How it Affects You:
At Wholeheart Coaching and Counseling:
The way services work at Wholeheart Coaching and Counseling; all fees are understood at the time you start working with us. You only pay for one session at a time and are not committed to pay for your next session until the cancellation window is reached (24 hours before it is scheduled), and you are not committed to attending or paying for any other sessions after that.
Any time you are referred for additional or different services outside of Wholeheart; You are never obligated to see a provider we may refer you to.
In the Good Faith Estimate (GFE,) we will now be providing you with, Marissa is expected to include a diagnosis with the services we recommend, the frequency of those services, and an estimate of the total cost. (Daniel does not diagnose mental health conditions.)
It is important for you to know that this is a little difficult in mental health for many reasons, including the following:
Because of this, and if you choose to go ahead with working with one of us, your GFE for your initial session will be the cost of that session only.
Once we meet, we will understand more about you and your situation, and will be able to provide an updated GFE.
Your GFE can be reviewed at any time upon your request, and I may also initiate a review of your estimate if necessary. This estimate could go up or down as a result of many factors including your life circumstances changing, how quickly you are making progress towards your counseling goals, additional information about your mental health becoming better understood as a result of your counseling or coaching work, or as a part of reviewing your needs and goals.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call the Colorado Division of Insurance at 303-894-7490 or 1-800-930-3745.
